ACPL Rejuvenation Project: A Message from the ACPL Director

Dear Albany County Public Library Community,

Find your balloons and streamers! We are excited to announce the start of a major renovation project for the library.

At the completion of the project, ACPL will have a fully remodeled large meeting room, an expanded conference room, and a new activity center for families at the front of the building. These spaces will have new audiovisual capabilities and better door access controls to make reservations and room use more streamlined for the community. As a cherry on top, we’ll have fully remodeled bathrooms, a new family/single-user bathroom, and two updated water fountains with water bottle fillers (sometimes it’s the little things!). The goal of these renovations is to expand access to public meeting spaces within our community.

This project is made possible through the Wyoming Library Multi-Purpose Community Facility Program. Governor Gordon’s office was able to secure $28 million in federal COVID relief funds to be dedicated specifically to improve multi-purpose spaces in Wyoming’s libraries. ACPL applied and received $2.6 million to undertake this project.

Over the last 10 months, a lot of behind-the-scenes work and preparation has been happening.

In the next week, you will begin to see signs of actual construction work about to begin. The construction will entail both interior and exterior updates, focused on the east and south sides of the building.  Here are a few details about construction:

  • Estimated Dates: January, 2025- September, 2025.
  • There will be large construction equipment on the library grounds for the duration of the project. The majority of this construction equipment will be contained in the ACPL front east parking lot (corner of Grand Avenue and Eighth Street).

ACPL will be doing what it can to mitigate disruptions during construction. We are grateful for your support and patience as we navigate the short-term challenges of this exciting project.

ACPL plans to keep the community updated on the project’s progress and what evolving changes you can expect when you come into the library. We will periodically post information on our blog when major changes happen. For more regular updates, be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

We are thrilled to be taking on this project to improve our community spaces. We are grateful to have such a wonderful, supportive library community.
